Wrap-Up Blog

My favorite project this semester was definitely the Adobe Illustrator tutorials. I enjoyed these specifically because of the bunny rabbit tutorial. That was literally the hardest thing I have ever created on the computer but once I was finished I was truly proud of my work. My rabbit came out better than the guy’s did on his tutorial. My favorite project we did was our final video project. I enjoyed this project particularly because it kind of culminated our whole semester’s work and ideas into one final piece of art. I chose to use my audio story to inspire the work you see in my final video story. i used a lot of the editing techniques that I had learned from the various tutorials throughout the semester to put together my whole entire final video story. I think the techniques and ideas that I used to put together the story made it into a great piece of work. I was very nervous starting the final video project because I did not think I would do a good job, but once I really dove into it and starting thinking of great ideas and concepts to add to my story, it came together perfectly.  I learned a lot about graphic design and audio/video editing. I could use this in the future when I need to design something for work or my personal life.

I plan on pursuing a career path in marketing/public relations. This class did not influence my choice but definitely help reassure myself in that path. I do not think there are any skills that I wish was taught in this course. I found the most useful websites and information were located within the Com210 wordpress and it’s tutorials.

I really enjoyed this course and would definitely recommend it to friends who are interested in a career in graphic design!

Final Video Story

This is my final edit for my Animals video story. It is a very more professional version of my video story draft. I also added some more content to give it a little more entertainment!  My first draft was just one take, which made it pretty easy to edit, but on my final draft, I cut up the video and added some nice transitions in between! I am so very happy with who my final product turned out. I was a little nervous it would not turn out as good as I had hoped because editing videos is sometimes really difficult. I did get pretty frustrated a few times while making the final draft but the internet and tutorials were very helpful and I found some step by step instructions on youtube for certain problems.

I got some really great critiques from my peers that helped me a lot. Some of the people said that I needed to flip my video (or mirror it) so that my drawings with words on them could be read the correct direction. This took me awhile to figure out how to do but I finally did. All you had to do was put the clip on iMovie, click effects and then click mirror! Also people wanted me to add some more content to the story. For this issue, I added an introduction to my final video story and added a clip with my pet hedgehog, Pablo. I think that by adding these two extra clips, it makes my video seem more professional and really fun and entertaining with my hedgehog!

I also added a sort of “theme” to my video and transitions. It looks like it is a photo album, flipping from picture (or memory) to picture. I chose this because the story is about my experiences with animals in my life and how they impacted me. This is exactly what a photo album does!

Video Story Draft

My video story, of course, is about animals and how they have affected my life. Animals have been so important to my life growing up and many of my life decisions have been made because of them. My story starts with me talking about how I grew up next to the biggest zoo in Washington and how I went to the zoo every week to learn about all the animals I could. Next I talk about how I volunteered at a vet clinic and helped sick animals get back to great health! That was a very humbling experience.

Those events made me understand how important animals are to humans and that they are very similar to us, sharing a lot of the same feelings, emotions and needs. Once I got home from my first year at college I knew where I wanted to get my summer job. I worked at that zoo the I grew up right next door to, the Woodland Park Zoo. That was so much fun because whenever I was on my lunch break I was able to explore the zoo and interact with the animals. My favorite animals I got to see all the time were the gorillas, jaguars and kangaroos.

The video making process was relatively simple. I was able to do the whole video in one take (after a few re-dos) which allowed me to save time by not have to cut clips together so it flows nicely! The drawing was fun because I haven’t done that in awhile so it was a pretty cool experience. I think the best way to share my experience with animals is through images so my video came together nicely! I look forward to hearing everyones comments and ideas about how to make my final video even better! Enjoy!

Animal Video Story Script

I have always loved animals and here are some points in my life where animals were exciting

1-I grew up right next to the Woodland Park zoo. We had a season pass every year so I could go whenever I wanted to which probably led to my love of animals.

2-The best part about being able to visit the zoo all the time was that I got to learn about all the not so popular types of animals like birds and frogs!

3-Once I got a little older I volunteered at a veterinary clinic helping sick animals back to health! We mostly saw dogs and cats but occasionally we got more exotic animals.

4-When I got back from my first year of college I knew exactly where I wanted to work for my summer job. I started working in the membership office at the Woodland Park Zoo.

5-The best part of working at the zoo was my lunch and breaks where I was able to go walk around and learn about the behind the scenes animal stuff. My favorite animals were the gorillas and kangaroos!

6-Next summer I am off to Thailand to volunteer at a elephant sanctuary! I am so excited!

I have always loved animals and have had various types of pets like dogs, cats, lizards, birds and turtles.I used my audio story draft to interview myself and a friend about how animals have shaped our lives. I am very excited to use different media contents to express my interest in animals and to teach my classmates and professors about my favorite species and types of animals. In my final audio story, I took everyones comments and did my best to put their critiques into the final. I added some nice music that fades in and out of the interviews!

The zoo was only a few blocks from my house growing up so this gave me the opportunity to go and visit and learn about the different types of animals in the world. This is my Adobe Illustrator design logo final draft. It represents my overall class subject of “Animals” and how they are very important to me. My inspiration for this logo design was the Woodland Park Zoo, which is a zoo in Seattle, Washington, where I work in the summer and winter.

Going into more depth about my logo, I put both a sun and clouds in my logo because, especially this summer, the zoo was so much fun rain-or-shine. The zoo sits on 70+ acres of land, which is why I added the trees. In this final draft, I added more detail to the natural aspects of the logo. Also I centered the shadows under my trees which was a critique of someone (even though the were off centered because the sun was in the middle off the pictures which would result in an off centered shadow…) The pathway in the middle is leading to the zoo as if the zoo was “the light at the end of the tunnel.” On the pathway I have added lines to make the pathway more recognizable as a side walk-type path. I put a thick black border around the image with the words “The Woodland Park Zoo” around it because I felt it made it look clean and sleek kind of like the BMW logo. In this final draft, I changed the font type to a more aesthetically pleasing font that fits the circular shape better as well.

For example it has use of space, form, consistency and clarity. My coloring is very unique which I think makes it personal and cool looking. The logo is also very functional and would look good on any color background in my opinion. The Logo represents the company greatly because the zoo was all about the outdoors and nature and one can see that immediately in my logo. My background is very unique because I used a blend of blue and brown which I faded together using the gradient tool. I used blue for a nice sky color, which blends, into the brown, which represents a natural ground color.
